As babywearing becomes more popular and people start to see the benefits of wearing your baby instead of having them in the car seat or swing all the time, I think it is important to include dads.
Dads play a major part in raising our children (obviously), but it is also very important for them to feel bonded to their baby. Babywearing is an excellent way to do that. Dads can feel like they are hands free and able to get stuff done just like mom too!
Some dads might think the carriers are a bit girly or too feminine for them, but there are brands that have made "daddy friendly" meaning they are easy to use and masculine looking.
My favorites are the Ergo Sport , Pikkolo by Cat Bird Baby , and the Moby Wrap .
All of these companies have paid special attention to daddies to ensure that their babywearing experience is comfortable, fashionable and most of all easy! I especially love the Ergo Sport because the straps are 4 inches longer and the waist is 5 inches longer, making it fit a wide range of adults. I even fit a dad that was 6ft 6in one time!
Dads should have no problem finding a way to bond with their baby and still get all their fun daddy duties done!
My friend's husband told me he wanted a carrier so that he could hold his son and play video games. The possibilties are ENDLESS!!!
Here is a picture of Bobby wearing his 4 week old son Ethan while he's ironing:
And here's a picture of my dad wearing my son while we were sight seeing in Chicago last summer:
Pass the word that daddy's can wear their babies and still be "cool"
Happy Babywearing!!
